You will collaborate with a wide variety of people in our customers spanning from developers to senior line-of-business executives. Within Backbase, you will work closely with our senior management and development teams to refine our solutions.

DESCRIPTION:

Sales Engineers are the backbone of our sales process, manage the technical sales cycle and provide technical sales support (e.g., needs development and discovery, product presentations, architecture reviews, application discussions, prototype development) for prospective customers. This highly visible position works closely with other members of the sales team and plays play an important role in the overall success of each sales territory. The Sales Engineer reports to the Director of Sales and collaborates with Corporate Sales Representatives (CSR) and Enterprise Account Managers (EAM) to drive sales to closure and enable customer success after the handoff to the consulting team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help identify and qualify opportunities for product and services at new and existing customers. Understand customer’s key technical requirements and articulate the value proposition of Backbase Enterprise Ajax software and Rich Applications to those requirements.
  • Deliver presentations and demonstrations of the Backbase software and Rich Applications to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships as primary technical point-of-contact during pre-sales activities, implementation, and transition to post-sales support.
  • Work closely with salesperson and customer to build financial justification and ROI to help close sales opportunities.
  • Respond to customer requests for information including the completion of RFIs and RFPs.
  • Customize existing demonstrations to customer requirements using Backbase Enterprise Ajax technologies with a wide range of back-end technologies (e.g. Java, SOA).
  • Build proof of concept applications based on customer wire frames
  • Work closely with customers to plan and conduct on-site "proof of concept/benchmark" tests of Backbase.
  • Provide weekly status updates on scheduling, pre- and post-sales account status, and other issues to Director of Sales and Management.
  • Architect Backbase solutions and work closely with professional services team to develop customer implementation plans as part of sales proposals.
  • Work closely with Backbase Product Management and Engineering to prioritize customer enhancement requests and to plan and to contribute to future product releases.
  • Contribute and maintain competitive analysis information for sales training purposes
  • Respond to questions from prospects sent via email and posted in BDN.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Self-motivated and possess the ability to quickly understand complex customer IT infrastructures. Have strong desire to help build a field team and our company. Driven to help customers succeed.
  • Demonstrated creative problem solving ability. Ability and desire to learn new technologies
  • Record of excellence in professional and educational background.
  • 3-5 years sales consulting, or customer-facing service delivery experience OR 5+ years in industry in positions actively involved with requirements creation, solutions selection, procurement and implementation of enterprise class RIA solutions. We are looking for people who are passionate about leveraging RIA to help companies improve revenue, profit or customer satisfaction that have the skills to work as part of a field organization responsible for selling solutions and developing accounts.
  • Excellent verbal language skills. English is required. Spanish and Portuguese are a plus.
  • Effective business writing skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Adobe, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Effective live and web-based presentation skills with proficiency in PowerPoint and demonstrating enterprise software applications.
  • Must have a strong understanding of Java Application Development and SOA technologies including: JSP, Struts, Spring, JSF, Portals and Web Services architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with End User presentation technologies including HTML, DHTML, AJAX, and Taglibs is strongly preferred.
  • Travel: 30% to 60%
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent business or technical education required.
