San Mateo, California - November 22th, 2007 - Backbase, The Ajax Company™, today introduced Enterprise Ajax 4.1, a new version of the industry leading Ajax framework. Enterprise Ajax is a unique Client based Ajax framework that works like an application server in a browser. The 4.1 version focuses on ease-of-use and brings new functionality with new sample applications, a new redesigned Ajax feature explorer, and enhanced documentation. Among the new features are:

Backbase Enterprise Ajax 4.1 works like an application server inside the browser, and offers all the Ajax “plumbing” a developer needs, right out of the box. It inherently supports the leading browsers including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape, Camino, Safari, and Opera. Developers can safely focus on developing widgets or rich internet applications knowing that the Backbase runtime will automatically take care of browser compatibility issues. It facilitates smart code reuse practices with an architecture based on reusable object oriented patterns and multiple inheritance support.
Enterprise Ajax 4.1 introduces a powerful new data binding system that delivers out of the box client side support for data in XML or JSON format for remote and local data. A new JSONRequest object implementation is now built into the framework enabling client-server communication in JSON data format.
The new version also introduces Bayeux support for Push technology, simplifying real-time data interchange with a Comet server.
Improved Ajax Portal Integration enables developers to integrate Backbase into leading portal server systems, leveraging portal standards such as JSR 168 and WSRP (Web Services Remote Portlets). Backbase 4.1 offers unique solution for retrieving relative resources in federated scenarios.
Backbase new Advanced Ajax Debugger offers an unmatched cross browser Ajax debugging environment that gives developers critical information about the inner workings of complex Ajax and DOM technologies. The new debugger adds: HTML inspector, I/O logger, Application inspector, JavaScript console, and CSS playground.
Working with cookies is made easier. The new cookie manipulation API is a set of new functions added to the framework which seamlessly integrates the use of cookies into Ajax RIAs.
The Backbase Ajax JSF Edition adds over ten new and improved Ajax components such as Taskbar, Windowarea, and more. A new JSF Facelet project is now built-in in the Eclipse Plug-in.
The new 4.1 version adds sample applications and enhanced documentation. The new documentation includes several tutorials on application and widget development and deployment. Multiple sample applications have been added to illustrate best programming practices.
Enterprise Ajax 4.1 includes a dual JavaScript/XML API that lets developers create their application in the programming language they are most familiar with. The new flexible architecture facilitates the inclusion of third party Ajax components such as Yahoo UI components, Dojo Widgets, EXT/JS widgets, Google Gadgets, etc., and allows you to formalize your programming practices with XML.
The new framework is even more extensible and integrates directly with Struts, Spring, JSF, SOA, Portals or any other server platform. Backbase Enterprise Framework includes a full set of development tools designed to increase developer's productivity. It includes a Ajax plug-in for the Eclipse platform and a browser based debugger.
Backbase Enterprise Ajax 4.1 is available today. It come is three editions: a free Ajax Community Edition for development and deployment up to one server and 2CPUs; and two commercial editions – being the Client Edition (multi-platform) and the JSF Edition (optimized for Java Server Faces). Commercial editions are available as annual subscriptions or can be purchased as a perpetual license with annual maintenance and support services. Annual subscriptions start at $2,500.
