Lead Technical Writer

Lead our team of Technical Writers to produce best-in-class documentation and enable customers to quickly and easily implement our products. Our growing technical writer guild consists of 20 writers that are distributed across different product lines within our RnD department, and are part of our Product Enablement value stream.

Our documentation is consumed by thousands of people working with our products every day. Strong and intuitive documentation is a critical aspect of successful implementations and therefore customer success.
We’re looking for a leader who will collaborate with various stakeholders and teams to drive a strong content-as-a-product mindset across RnD. As the Lead Technical Writer, you will work with the guild and development teams to improve our documentation processes and help us scale to meet the demand of our growing product portfolio.

What you'll do

You’ll be a driving force in bringing our product documentation to the next level. In this role you will:

● Define, implement and drive processes for creating and maintaining content across many teams.
● Demonstrate and uphold exceptional standards for written communication, specifically product documentation.
● Introduce standards and best practices to support documentation processes at scale.
● Radiate a belief and passion for continuous improvement and uphold a culture of proactively seeking user feedback, and stakeholder input to strive for best-in-class product documentation.
● Work with leadership and the technical writing community to shape a vision for the team and for documentation at Backbase, then make it happen with an entrepreneurial and can-do mentality.
● Share your knowledge and experience with your team and see yourself as a mentor and coach to your fellow technical writers.
● Engage leadership and key stakeholders in your ongoing efforts, report on results, and flag challenges and solutions where needed.
● Use your leadership skills to empower and mobilize our technical writing community around a shared vision and goal with a results-driven mindset.
● Apply your experience and learnings to introduce new and improved forms of product documentation for example: tutorials and runbooks for implementation teams, content patterns and templates for all teams to adhere to, etc.
● Evangelize the importance of technical writing and demonstrate content-as-a-product mindset across the organization

Who you are

These are the characteristics of our ideal candidate, but we’re open to shape the role for the right fit for our team. So, if you feel you’re a fit, we encourage you to apply:

● 8+ years of experience writing and working with software documentation
● Native-level written and spoken English
● 5+ years of experience coaching and/or supervising Technical Writers
● 1-3 years of experience owning a documentation platform or leading technical writing team
● Experience setting and achieving organizational and team goals
● Experience shaping technical writing teams and driving ongoing improvements to documentation processes
● Experience in project management is a plus
