BGŻ BNP Paribas Bank, one of the largest banks in Poland, will implement the Backbase Omni-Channel Banking Platform as part of a strategy to deliver seamless digital customer experiences and drive its capacity to connect to fintechs. This project will significantly boost the bank’s operations, as it introduces a new digital platform and drives the use of agile project management throughout the organization.

As part of its new “Fast Forward” strategy, BGŻ BNP Paribas Bank has focused on digitization and simplified processes as being key success factors. This strategy will make the organization more agile and ready to quickly respond to market changes. Rapid digitization and excellent omnichannel digital customer experiences are central to these efforts. To build capacity for this, a strategic partnership was entered into with Backbase, provider of one of the most advanced solutions in this field.

Poland is a very innovative market where banks constantly strive to improve their digital capabilities. We are impressed with BGŻ BNP Paribas Bank’s digital strategy and execution power. They are not just driving a digital transformation initiative, they have taken on a complete business transformation”.
– Jouk Pleiter, CEO of Backbase

Having grown from a series of mergers, the bank had previously inherited various legacy systems. A more agile, flexible platform was required to modernize and streamline both the back-end and front-end. Backbase was selected from a group of ten potential candidates. The strength of the platform, its flexible architecture and the company’s digital DNA were key factors in this decision. Also important was the fact that Backbase allowed the bank to build their own assets.

“Cooperation with Backbase is a natural consequence of the requirements of our transformation program. Our new strategy is based on five core pillars: simplicity, digitization, quality, growth and enthusiasm. Implementing the Backbase Omni-Channel Banking Platform will make our services easier, faster and more innovative.”
– Piotr Marciniak, Head of Digital and Mobile of Bank BGŻ BNP Paribas

The partner-led implementation incorporates Backbase agile project management and architecture support from Backbase subject matter experts. Initially, internet banking will be moved over to the new platform, but plans are to move to a single architecture, and implement Backbase mobile as part of this. BGŻ BNP Paribas Bank is also changing the way it develops and runs projects, with a heavy emphasis on fintechs, digital, and Continuous Integration Continuous Development (CICD).

BGŻ BNP Paribas Bank emphasizes cooperation with sought-after fintechs. We believe that banks and fintechs can walk arm in arm and together create useful solutions for our clients. We constantly seek out the best, most innovative projects to support our operations, and are glad to implement some of their ideas in our bank. Backbase offered great hybrid of out-of-the-box functionality and accelerators.
– Piotr Marciniak
