VP of Engineering

You will be the key engineering and product leader responsible for driving the technical strategy, execution, and evangelism of our Engagement Banking Platform across various banking verticals. You'll directly influence our global technology vision, leading and scaling high-performing, globally distributed engineering teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions for financial institutions worldwide. This role is about making a real, tangible impact, connecting our platform's evolution to crucial customer needs and market opportunities

As a strategic and technical leader, you will be instrumental in aligning our engineering efforts with our product vision and customer success, driving both innovation and execution across your region.

• Drive Engineering Excellence: Champion a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and technical rigor. Set and maintain robust engineering standards, promote best practices in software development, and ensure teams have the necessary tools and support to excel.
• Lead and Grow Teams: Oversee and scale R&D squads, including engineering managers, directors, and developers (FE, BE, QA). Foster an empowering, inclusive engineering culture that attracts, retains, and develops top talent. Manage direct reports, run regular 1:1s, and provide mentorship and career development.
• Ensure Strategic Capacity: Be responsible for capacity planning, ensuring your teams have the execution power, organizational structure, and technical capability required to deliver on our ambitious product vision.
• Manage Portfolio Delivery: Provide clarity and coordination for cross-functional delivery efforts, expertly managing dependencies and aligning execution with high-level strategic objectives.
• Enable Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, design, business, sales, and marketing teams to bring banking products to market, ensuring the engineering voice is central to strategic decisions and aligned with regulatory standards.
• Act as an Evangelist: Represent Backbase with conviction, both internally and externally. Position our platform as the market leader in digital banking innovation at customer workshops, strategic forums, and industry events.

• Extensive Leadership Experience: You have significant experience leading engineering departments of 100+ people and are a champion for building engineering excellence and a strong, inclusive culture.
• Product-Led Background: You have a strong background in software engineering, with deep experience in product-led technology environments and a profound understanding of software development at scale.
• Global Team Success: You thrive in globally distributed, cross-cultural teams and can effectively inspire remote/offshore squads as well as those on-site.
• Strategic Clarity & Focus: You have a proven ability to bring strategic clarity and focus, even when navigating a high volume of complex, ambiguous decisions.
• Roadmap Execution: You are able to set and execute a long-term technical and product roadmap while remaining close to the realities of day-to-day delivery and execution.
