We recently sat down with a few of Backbase’s Back-End Engineers to explore their work and how the company supports their professional growth and development.
When did you become a Backbaser, and why did you choose Backbase?
I became a Backbaser in June 2021, and I’m proud to be the first engineer hired for BDC India. The Backbase Engagement Banking Platform focuses more on customer journeys, rather than just developing products. This, in itself, gives a lot of potential scope for growth in terms of engineering contribution and how technology-based solutions can enhance customer experience with fintech products. This is one reason why I chose to join Backbase and help with its mission – the diversified teams and talent are second to none.
I joined Backbase on November 1st, 2021, drawn to the company due to its reputation for providing a strong work-life balance and ample opportunities for personal growth and development.
I joined Backbase in May 2022. The Backbase platform provides customer-centric journeys which are highly customizable and scalable. I saw an opportunity to collaborate with such a growing platform, which may in turn help with my personal development growth.
I joined Backbase on April 15th, 2022. Backbase is the backbone for many banks and financial institutions, which means there is a lot of potential to grow. I have seen growth in my career and knowledge – which is aligned with the Backbase journey – by communicating with cross-functional teams and working with colleagues in different regions.
What do you enjoy the most about the company and why?
R.M. Apart from the technical work we are part of, I enjoy working with such transparent individuals and processes that always prioritize an engineer’s aspirations and goals.
H.P. During my onboarding, the buddy system was incredibly helpful in getting me acclimated to my new role. Once I was fully immersed in my project, I had access to individual Slack channels for each module, where I could reach out for clarification and support. Additionally, the training provided through Backbase Academy was outstanding. Unlike other companies that might offer only recorded knowledge transfer sessions or PowerPoint presentations, Backbase provided hands-on video tutorials that made it easier for me to understand the product.
M.P. I like the culture we have here which not only promotes a developer's interest in their Software Engineering career, but also their wellbeing.
H.K. In most organizations, onboarding projects are a bit hectic, especially when it comes to customer-facing projects. But Backbase solves this efficiently with video tutorials and hands-on training for Backbase products with certification. The company also makes developer life easier with community pages and individual Slack channels for each product.
What would you like to say to our potential candidates?
R.M. My advice is always to understand the limitations and capabilities of a product vs. a platform. The Backbase Engagement Banking Platform gives the flexibility to seamlessly integrate multiple products, services, and infrastructures, whether they are Backbase-developed or third-party solution providers. In the fintech space, it is always exciting to learn and contribute towards such platforms and understand how customer-centric journeys are developed. I wish aspiring engineers to experience the ecosystem this platform provides and be part of our mission to re-architect banking around the customer.
