Principal QA Engineer

Join our R&D Digital Banking team to elevate our QA practices to new heights. You’ll ensure that the products and environments relied upon by our colleagues and partners are of the highest quality. Collaborate with multiple product teams to implement best practices in quality, test automation, and CI, ensuring our organization runs smoothly and efficiently. You'll be at the forefront of testing the products that showcase Backbase’s capabilities to the world.

As a Principal QA Engineer at Backbase, you’ll be part of our QA Guild, responsible for overseeing QA practices for a suite of critical products used by our customers, partners, and colleagues. You'll play a key role in ensuring quality of the products that are central to Backbase by defining standards and baking in quality at every stage of SDLC, ultimately taking accountability that they are flawless when they go live.

Day-to-day, you’ll be defining testing strategies for new features and capabilities, mentoring and coaching engineers on your teams, implementing best practices across multiple teams, influencing stakeholders as well as hands-on testing new features across various levels (integration, system, functional, regression, exploratory). You'll lead frontend, mobile and backend quality assurance. Your role also involves producing defect metrics, reporting on the QA process, and collaborating closely with stakeholders to address questions or issues related to the products. Working in an agile environment, you'll ensure that QA practices align with our agile methodologies.

• Conduct hands-on testing across multiple levels, ensuring comprehensive coverage for Digital Banking products;
• Develop and execute detailed test plans and schedules;
• Lead automated and manual testing efforts for web, mobile and backend;
• Track and report on defect metrics to drive continuous improvement;
• Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve questions and issues, ensuring product quality;
• Contribute to internal QA initiatives, including training and tool/process evaluation;
• Teach engineers how to bake quality into their code.

You’re a seasoned QA professional with a passion for web, mobile and backend test automation. A leader who collaborates with multiple teams to drive the quality standards and raise the bar, and you’re excited to own QA processes within product teams and thrive in an agile environment. You have a growth mindset, you are an innovative and proactive person with a strong bias towards action. You’re a great communicator experienced in collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the highest quality in our showcase products. Therefore we’re looking for someone who:

• Lives in Kraków or nearby and is willing to work in a hybrid mode - 2 times per week from the office;
• Has hands-on experience in web, mobile and backend test automation;
• Is proficient in JavaScript (Playwright experience is a plus) and knowledgeable in CI/CD tools;
• Is skilled in API testing (e.g., Postman, RestAssured) and defect management (e.g., JIRA);
• Balances automated and manual testing effectively and creates/maintains test plans;
• Has strong communication skills in English and experience with agile methodologies;
• Proven track of driving improvement initiatives, influencing stakeholders, collaborating across teams, leading without authority including stakeholder collaboration.
