Sparekassen Danmark takes ownership of its digital roadmap
Sparekassen Danmark is the country’s largest savings bank, grown over generations of mergers into a nationwide branch network. Partnering with Backbase, the bank is building digital onboarding for retail customers on top of the core banking system already in place, with the first journeys due to go live in 2027.

Objectives
The bank has grown through more than 25 mergers, and onboarding still runs on manual steps spread across disconnected systems, where signing up a new customer takes 155 minutes of combined advisor and back-office work. The bank competes on the depth of its customer relationships, so the advisor stays at the centre of every journey, and the aim is to take the repetitive work out of the conversation and give advisors more of their day for advice. Alongside that, the bank wants to set the pace of its own digital roadmap.
Solution
Sparekassen Danmark selected Backbase for a composable platform its own engineering teams can build on, with a first go-live measured in months and a foundation that works with the existing core banking system. Backbase leads the first phase, digital onboarding for retail customers on web and inside the bank's existing mobile app, with MitID authentication and Danish consent and tax data wired in. Advisors work cases in a dedicated workspace. The bank's own team builds alongside Backbase and takes ownership of the journeys that follow, with Backbase advising.
