EastWest's strategic ecosystem architecture serving affluent and underserved segments

In the Philippines, access to affordable credit remains a systemic challenge, especially for those outside the traditional banking system. Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, affluent customers expect seamless digital experiences, hyper-personalization, and banking that keeps pace with their lifestyle. Real growth means serving both ends of the market, at scale and without compromise. EastWest recognized both the opportunity and the urgency, and moved fast to harmonize its digital ecosystem and lay the foundation for sustainable, inclusive financial growth.

Objectives

EastWest Bank saw a clear path to growth: unlock more lending opportunities by expanding its deposit base, and deliver greater value across the full customer spectrum to make it happen. With the top end of the market already saturated, the path forward demanded a sharp strategy and a smart approach to digital.

Solution

With Backbase as a strategic partner, EastWest began harmonizing its digital channels across customer segments. They built EasyWay to serve retail customers, Komo, an in-house app to reach underserved segments, and launched innovations like EW Pay, the first NFC Visa app in the Philippines.

Results

EastWest’s digital ecosystem is now live across multiple customer segments. With this foundation in place, the bank is doubling down on its next phase of transformation, customer identity and access management (CIAM), AI-powered intelligence, and platform consolidation, all aimed at delivering a truly unified, secure, and seamless experience across the customer journey.
