Meet Bui Thi Ngoc Tram, AI Engineer

Tell us about your Backbase journey. What made you join our team?

My journey at Backbase began on August 1st, 2024, when I joined as an AI Engineer. What convinced me to apply for the position was a message I received on LinkedIn from Chris Shayan, who is now my leader. He shared the exciting plans for the new AI team, and I was intrigued by the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects. The AI team was still in its early stages, and I felt it would be a great environment to both learn and contribute. What really drew me in was the potential to be part of something fresh and impactful.

What exciting challenges do you tackle in your role?

I am part of the newly formed AI team at Backbase Vietnam, and I'm the 4th member, joining Chris. It's a dynamic team, and we've been working on some incredible projects together. The biggest challenge we face is building and refining conversational banking solutions, which require a mix of technical expertise and creative problem-solving. As we're a small team, there's a lot of ownership and responsibility, but it's also a great opportunity to make a significant impact early on.

What makes Backbase's culture special to you?

The work culture at Backbase is innovative, collaborative, and empowering. From day one, I was encouraged to hit the ground running and contribute to the first Conversational Banking project. It's a fast-paced environment where ideas are valued, and everyone is motivated to learn and grow. The leadership, particularly Chris, fosters a supportive atmosphere that helps us face challenges while continuously pushing boundaries in AI and technology.

How does Backbase support your growth as an AI engineer?

As part of the AI team at Backbase, I work with cutting-edge technologies like LangChain and LangGraph for building conversational agents and stateful workflows. These tools have enabled me to design intelligent, scalable solutions in conversational banking. I also use core development tools like Python, FastAPI, and Git to build and integrate solutions efficiently. These technologies, combined with the team's support, have been instrumental in my development as an AI engineer, and I'm constantly learning and improving in this environment.
