Technical Manager

We officially opened our Singapore office in November 2018, strengthening our presence in the APAC region. Located just a block from the Singapore River bay, our office is located in one of the co-working spaces in the city center. We are based in a vibrant area within walking distance to China Town and Raffles Place. From the small stores to a number of authentic restaurants and cafes, there’s excitement and hustle in the district.

As a Technical Manager, you are the technical leader of a strategic client account - or a

portfolio of accounts - with end-to-end ownership of the technical success and quality of our

solution delivery. You work in close partnership with the Delivery Leader, ensuring that our

clients not only go live successfully, but continue to thrive and scale with confidence.

You are a hands-on leader who drives solution design with architects, partners closely with

engineering leads, and leads from the front when needed during complex technical challenges

or critical incidents. You set the tone for engineering excellence, while ensuring the right technical

team structures and accountabilities are in place to deliver at scale.

Throughout the client journey, you are the primary technical contact and trusted advisor,

seamlessly navigating between technical deep dives and high-stakes conversations with CIOs

and executives. You bring clarity, confidence, and commitment to every interaction while

shaping outcomes.

What you'll do

Take full technical ownership of the client account, acting as the technology leader

across all workstreams.

Use your technical and product expertise to define and drive our clients’ technical

strategy

Become an internal advocate of the client and bring the voice of the customer into the

rest of the Backbase organization

You identify opportunities for the customer to have better product adoption, provide

guidance on best practices for custom components, and help the client align their

requirements with our R&D roadmap

Collaborate closely with the Technical Support, Product Engineering, and Project

Implementation teams at Backbase to ensure successful implementations of the

Backbase product.

Ensure technical quality and compliance with platform best practices across all squads,

raising the bar for engineering practices and delivery standards.

Act as the technical face of Backbase towards the client’s senior stakeholders, from

engineering teams to CIO-level conversations.

Serve as a role model by being hands-on when needed - unblocking technical issues,

supporting squads, and ensuring progress.

Who you are

Overall experience of 10+ years and 5 years of management experience with solid

technical background, including experience in software and systems architecture;

You have led enterprise-grade software delivery, preferably in financial services or

regulated industries;

You have experience with most of our technology stack: Java, Spring, Maven, Gradle,

Angular, Kotlin, Cloud Deployments, Docker, Kubernetes (on-prem, cloud) and Swift.

Having a cloud certification (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect) is a plus;

You thrive in high-stakes environments, leading from the front during escalations and

aligning cross-functional teams under pressure.

You have a deep understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, monitoring, and SRE practices —

and ensure operational excellence is part of delivery.

You have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, equally

comfortable with engineering teams and CXOs.

You are passionate about building strong engineering cultures, mentoring teams, and

setting a high bar for engineering excellence.

You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or

equivalent relevant industry experience.
